Farmers marched in large numbers on Monday to celebrate the victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India’s call for the repeal of agricultural reforms.
They also demanded an increase in minimum supply prices for all products, not just rice and wheat.
Farmers’ protests for more than a year have been the most serious political challenge for the Hindu nationalist government.
On November 19, Modi pledged to reverse the reforms. Thousands gather in the northern city of Uttar Pradesh, the capital of India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh.
It is also a state that Modi’s Bratiya Janata Party will seek to gain influence in early next year.
